Amadora BD 2017 (Lisbonne 1)

We just got back from the Amadora BD festival near Lisbon in Portugal.

Stanley and I attended to support the CONTAR O MUNDO, an international exhibit on comics and journalism. Stanley had pages from EXTRACTION! A comix reportage to which I wrote the script based on the reportage by journalist Tamara Herman.

We were interviewed by the curator of the exhibit Sara Fugueiredo Costa and did a walking tour of the exhibit with her. You can see part of the tour on the vidéo here. We met some amazing people including Mike Royer pictured below with me and Stanley, also the curators for the Jack Kirby, the directors of the Jack Kirby museum (Tom Kraft), the owners of original Jack Kirby art who loaned their million dollar pieces for the exhibit and, fellow comics journalist Ted Rall.

It was truly an amazing experience. They portuguese visitors and comics fan always greeted us with warmth, some knowing of your past work (wich always surprises me). We were taken on tours, treated to delicious portuguese meals and epic suppers.

As TRIP publishers, we hope this visit will be the start of some future collaborations. We talked to publishers and local comics experts who helped us discover terrific artists form Portugal. Big thanks to Marcos from Chili Com Carne and especially, Ligia Macedo in charge of International Relations and Marta. A very enligntening and fruitful journey.

We will be back!

Workshop begins as Stanley makes each participant pick two symbolic cards
from which they have to improvise and draw a 4 panel story.

The workshop participants were amazing, each naturally coming up
with a personal story following the guidelines set by Stanley.
