The Cowgirls of White Fish lake

Up North, about half an hour from Mt-Laurier lies the village of White Fish Lake. In the late nineteen and early twentieth century, it was run by a band of outlaw women who took no shit from men. Mayor Townsend ran the place with a an iron glove. Few men were aloud to live there. Most of them ended up at the end of a rope on a tree anyway (wich probably explains why there are no men on the pictures). French, English, First Nations, they all worked together in peace and harmony. They were the first in Quebec to have bio-cultures and made everything themselves like soap, bread, clothes, etc... Nowadays, you can still spot a few of their descendents around the lake, giving off that strong pioneer women vibe.

These pictures were unearthed in an abandonned house in the woods that had been overtaken by nature. They were restored by Marc Tessier and Shannon Townsend with great care. Enjoy!
